Symbolism In, The Old Man And The Sea

In the book I am reading now, The Old Man And The Sea, i think the fish that the old man and the boy are trying to catch symbolizes their struggle, and is the only force that can bring this old man down, and stop him from ever fishing again.

Wow finally

I finally finished reading this book, it have to say it was really slow in the beginning, and it was easier to understand at first as well. Towards the end the book was filled with action, but i dont want to spoil it for any of you, but i do recommend it. The next book that i will be reading is A Clockwork Orange

looking good

After the sleeping pill incident, Guy Montag hears from his wife that the girl has been run over by a car. He grieves over her death and begins to start stealing books from the houses that he burns down. Eventually he collects a little library of about 20 books for himself. He also begins to realize that the girl was trying to teach him that books are good and that he shouldn't be burning them. He calls up the man he recently met in the park and asks to come over. The man, Faber, used to be an english teacher, so he is told about Montag's theory. He says that it is a bad idea because the chief knows about the missing books from the burned down homes.

First blog post, Fahrenheit 451

Well in Fahrenheit 451, the author Ray Bradbury begins the story by having the main character meet up with this one girl that questions almost everything about him. For example, she asked him if there was ever a time when firefighters put out fire instead of start them. When I read this, I thought about how today a firefighter's main objective is to cease a fire, and how this is a very important task. What i didn't understand was why there was a need for people who STARTED fires; how was this of any use to the people of the community?

Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury (independent reading book)

I chose to read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. I picked it because of reader reviews on Amazon, and because a friend recommended it. All I know about the book is that it has this twisted little plot about firemen and how they don't put out fires; but start them on purpose to burn books. I expect to finish reading this book with alot of unanswered questions. Ray Bradbury is an American writer that is famous for many different works, but is most famous for The Martian Chronicles. An interesting fact about the author is that he never attended college although he did finish high school. It will take me about two weeks to finish reading this book if i read about 100 pages every one week.
